The platform can produce accessible sites, but whether yours is depends on the template, colors, images and text you choose. Scan your pages to see where they stand.

Scan a page to see which text fails and by how much. Then open Site Styles, go to Colors, find the palette color behind the failing text, and darken the text color or lighten the background until it reaches 4.5:1 (3:1 for text 24px and up, or about 19px bold). The color contrast checker suggests the nearest colors that pass, so the change stays close to your design. Check section color themes too — each section can use a different palette pairing — and button text on accent colors. Rescan to confirm.

Alt text fields for images, heading options, keyboard focus styles and, in many templates, a skip link. They are a starting point: whether the site passes depends on the colors, images, text and blocks you add.

Three things. Your content — alt text that describes each image, real headings and descriptive link text. Third-party blocks and extensions — booking, reviews and chat widgets run their own code on your pages. And code blocks — custom HTML and CSS is where unlabeled buttons and missing focus styles usually come from.

The homepage and navigation (focus order, dropdowns by keyboard), gallery and product pages (alt text, contrast on prices and labels), contact and newsletter forms (labels and error messages), every checkout step by keyboard if you use Squarespace Commerce, and any embedded third-party widget.

No tool makes a site compliant by itself. An overlay changes the page in each visitor’s browser but leaves the site as it was.
